What Are Teachers For?

I’m sitting in what I call the “mommy pit” at the gymnastics studio, the fenced sideline from which I’ve watched my daughter explore the potential of her human form over the last five years. She does a triple back handspring, vaulting backward in three blind spirals until she plants her feet in the unmistakable thwack of a solid landing, raising her arms in a completion salute.

Hi Karen, I just discovered you website and I look forward to reading all your previous writings. I see the new for a teacher in martial arts as well. A person cannot learn by reading books and mimicking videos alone. They need to experience it themselves throught actual training and instruction. It's difficult to find a good teacher, but even more difficult for a teacher to find a good student. Thank you for writing such wonderful teachings.
